sizes="(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px" />
Adie’s challenge in Oklahoma was short-term as partner Laura O’Donoghue fell ill in the build-up to the women’s K2 and they decided on the afternoon prior to the race that they would race and although they weren’t at full strength Adie believes that it was valuable preparation.

“Laura got more and more sick as we approached the race and we hadn’t gone all that way not to race so we gave it a shot,” Adie said. “Although we weren’t at our best the lessons you learn at events like that are invaluable and I came away with some great experience that will be good for me going forward.”

The traditional turn-around between World Marathon Champs and the Hansa Fish is only a few days but this year the paddlers have had an extra week to rest up and prepare for the two-day paddle from Grassridge Dam to Cradock and Adie was initially worried that she might not be in top condition but she has dispelled these thoughts with a week until the race.

“I am still feeling a bit flat following the trip from America and I was scared that it might carry over but with the extra week to recover I’m sure I will be feeling good when I get to Cradock.

“I am really fit at the moment and I really just hope that I can put together a good race this year because it is a race that I really want to win!” a determined Adie mentioned.

Adie alluded to the fact that she has never won the K1 Hansa Fish crown before however she was unable to pinpoint the reason for her lack of K1 gold but she is confident that if she can avoid swimming at this year’s race then she has got a good chance.

“In the past I have swum quite a lot during the race which has obviously lost me time and I think my chances will be so much better if I can get through the race without making any mistakes!

“This year will be my eleventh Fish so I think that I know the river well enough so being able to get through the race in one piece will be a great way for me to challenge for the win,” Adie commented.

With the title of 2014 Berg River Canoe Marathon champion under her belt as well as a trip to a world championship Adie feels that she has had the ideal build-up to the race and the soft-spoken star believes that she is ready to go.

“The Pre-Fish is something that I normally do every year but this year with Marathon’s I couldn’t which I don’t think is a bad thing because I’ve decided that I am not going to kill myself with tripping the river before the race.

“I feel that I will be ready for the race when we start this weekend and I say that I won’t but I will put pressure on myself because I really want to win the race,” a focused Adie explained.

With defending K1 champion Michele Eray coming out from the United States to race and recent Under-23 K1 Marathon bronze medallist Jenna Ward lining up on the start line Adie knows that it is going to be a difficult race.

“Getting onto the podium is going to be difficult this year with Michele (Eray) coming back to defend her title and Jenna Ward being in the form of her life so it is going to be really difficult to win but that is my main focus,” the motivated Adie concluded.

Having just returned the ICF Canoe Marathon World Champs, 2013 K2 Hansa Fish River Canoe
